Stair lift Los Angeles Quick Facts

We design stair lifts to fit on narrow stairs for you and for others using the stairs.

We design stair lifts with a slim rail, a compact carriage and folding arms, seat and footrest. This ensures that the chairlift folds away neat and secure, allowing others to use the stairs. This is practical and convenient feature for all of our customers, regardless of how much space you have.

Our stair lifts can go round corners and spirals.

Our custom-curved model is the most versatile chair lift/stair lift available for narrow, curved stairs. Because it’s designed for your stairs, it can travel tightly around bends on either side of the staircase and hug the corners as it easily navigates intermediate landings and tight corridors with ease. Your stair lift’s rail will be manufactured to the exact specifications and requirements of your unique staircase. These are not assembled with off-the-shelf, pre-built rails. The addition of the optional two-way powered swivel, provides added security as you can swivel the chair to the safest position at both the top and bottom of the stairs, without having to engage the levers and turn the chair manually. This is a great option for folks who have limited strength in their legs.

Our stair lifts are installed in just a few hours.

Our stair lifts are attached to the stairs, not the wall, the process is quick, clean and simple. That means no major damage or construction in your home. Our professional installers will do the job well, tidying up afterwards and thoroughly testing the stair lift, before providing a demonstration and walking you through how to use the stair lift safely.

Our lifts work during a power outage.

In the event of a power outage in your Los Angeles neighborhood, your stair lift’s batteries will continue to work. All you have to do is turn the lift off when you aren’t using it and you will still get around 20 trips up and down, until you get power back.

Stair lift Guide Los Angeles

You want to stay in your home in Los Angeles, so let us give you a hand. There is a lot to learn and understand about installing stair lifts in Los Angeles, but we’re happy to walk you through it. After all, we’ve been at it since 1987! Things have changed quite a bit over the years, but at the end of the day, it’s all about getting you upstairs safely, reliably and in style.

First, we have to find out a few things:

  1. Stair lift Components
  2. What type of stairs do you have?
  3. Where are the stairs? (Inside or outside your home)
  4. What is the traffic like around the stairs?
  5. What are the dimensions of your stair case?
  6. What is going to fit on your stairs?
  7. WHY do you need the stair lift?

Stair Lift Components

A stair lift is made up of three things: the rail, the carriage, and the chair.

The Stair Lift Rail

The rail is mounted to the stair case first. Whether straight or curved (more on that later), this is a core component. It also holds the rack: a series of metal teeth that the gear on the stair lift travels along, up or down the stairscase. Here’s an example of a straight stair lift rail:

As you can see, the rail is mounted to the stairs (not the wall)  by its “feet”, which are typically attached with a lag (wood or concrete). Nothing is attached to the walls. We don’t do that, because the walls can’t bear as much weight as the stair treads. You can see the feet pretty well in this photo. We actually had to sort through a few photos to find one that showed them properly; they’re pretty discreet.

The wiring for the electrical also comes into the lift through the rail. The stair lift functions on battery power, which is charged by an outlet at the top or bottom of the stairs. This keeps the stair lift working, in the event of a power outage

THE CARRIAGE

This is a close-up of the carriage on a straight stair lift.

Below is an example of a carriage for a curved stair lift.

The curved stair lift utilizes a two-rail system, as opposed to just one on a straight stairlift.

The carriage is what houses the motor that drives the stair lift. The motor gearbox, electronics, safety switches and the batteries are all contained within the carriage. It’s basically like the hood of your car, where the engine is kept.

The pinion attaches to the motor gearbox which climbs the rack on the rail. There is also a circuit board which acts as the “brain” of the stair lift. The circuit board knows when to start and stop based on the signals it is reading from the switches and circuits of the chair.

The carriage also displays an LED number code, to help with troubleshooting, should you run into issues using your stairlift. This allows us to quickly diagnose problems over the phone and help get repairs and service completed faster (or avoid unnecessary service calls, when possible).

THE SEAT

Your Stair Lift’s seat is one of the most customizable parts of your stair lift. You’ll have some choice between a few different chairs and can choose the seat belt and upholstery that best fit your needs.

Choosing the right chair lift seat is all about comfort, performance, quality and style. There are several seat options, we’ll get to that soon!

Staircase Types

Staircases are categorized as either or straight or curved, there’s really not much in-between.

A straight staircase makes NO turns and has not platforms, or what is called an intermediate landing, like this:

That’s because a straight stair lift can only travel up its straight rail at a relatively constant angle. The rails are mass-produced and housed locally to reduce costs.

Staircase Location

Are your stairs indoors or outside your home? Maybe, you want to cover both locations.

We can install both outdoor stair lifts and indoor stair lifts. Just let us know where you need help and we’ll be happy to stop by for a free survey of your stairs.

Staircase Traffic

The house “traffic patterns” at the bottom, on, and at the top of the stair case are an important part of finding the right stair lift solution for your Los Angeles home.

stair lift cost

This is an example of Stannah’s retractable rail stair lift. However, it’s only available for STRAIGHT stairs. It automatically folds up or down with the stair lift, so that it only extends past the bottom step when the stair lift is downstairs.

Why is that an option? Well, if the bottom of your stairs is near a door, you’ll need one to make sure you can open and close it safely. Many times, customers utilize this option to make room for the front door, garage door, or closet door.

Unfortunately, there isn’t an option for one on a curved stair case – yet. For now, we have a great alternative: we can curve the rail around a corner at the bottom of the stairs, so you can park it out of the way.

Staircase Dimensions

We need to know the width of your staircase, so we can be sure a stair lift will fit. Typically, 29″ (in some cases as little as 27″) in width may work, but anything less than that will be tight and potentially not feasable. We want to make sure your stair lift is code compliant and safe.

Length of stair case really doesn’t matter, since we can do just about any length possible on a stair lift. But the shortest you can go is about three steps. Anything less than that and you should just get a ramp, if possible.

Why do you need the Stair Lift?

There are many reasons why someone needs a stair lift, what’s yours?

Why do we need to know? Well, there are a lot of other factors involved in a stair lift that we can customize to make work for you.

For example, you may have bad knees, but you may also have one arm that’s stronger than the other. We can move the switch to the stronger hand or install a stair lift that doesn’t require you to bend your knees at a 90 degree angle.

Maybe the user can’t keep themselves upright in the chair. We have a 5 point or a shoulder safety belt option that could be a great solution.

Next, we’ll take a look at our stairlift models.

Our Stairlifts

The Starla Stair Lift Los Angeles

The Starla model is the best option on the market for style, safety and reliability. Its key benefits are:

  • Soft and Comfortable – The chair leans slightly back from the seat, giving you more security and comfort while riding up the stairs.
  • Seat Sensor – The Starla has a sensor in the seat that won’t let the stair lift run unless someone is sitting in the chair. That eliminates any risk of starting the lift before you sit in it.
  • Fabric and Trim – You can choose from our vinyl and woven fabric options. You also have the option of light or dark wood trim, or simply have your stairlift full upholstered. This allows you to match the chair to your own style and home decor.
  • Seat Belt – Fitted with our unique seat belt, the Starla chair is set up so that for maximum safety.

  • Fabric – There are 6 upholstery options for you at no extra charge.
  • LED indication – the carriage (which houses the motor and electronics) has an LED display that can show numbers from 1 to 9. These numbers will allow ACME to diagnose any issues that may happen, such if you accidentally push one of the safety sensors.
